Hotel Reservations – Get the Best Room No Matter HOW You Made Your Hotel Reservation

It is a fact that the room that you get depends on how you made your hotel reservations. Although this might not sound fair, and in many cases it’s not, it does happen.

For example, if you book your hotel room on the hotel’s website and you book the most expensive rate possible, you are probably going to get a pretty great room. However, if you take advantage of one of their “discounts” then they have more than likely set aside a certain block of rooms for these reservations, not necessarily their most coveted rooms, and you will probably get one of those.

This is even truer when it comes to making your hotel reservations with sites such as Priceline and Hotwire. Although hotels do work with these sites, they don’t set aside their best rooms for these. Some customers even complain about getting lackluster service when they check into the hotel, due to the fact that they have made their reservations through these sites.

Well, you probably don’t want a view of the garbage cans or the back of another building. Likewise, if you have small children, or you have trouble getting around, you don’t want a room 10 miles from the elevator. Unfortunately, these might be the rooms that have been set aside or designated for your particular reservation style of choice.

So how can you get a great room, regardless of how you made your hotel reservations?

Although you might have heard that getting a room as close to the ground as possible is preferable due to the fact that the ladders on fire trucks only reach so high, you can be assured that these rooms are going to be the ones with the worst views. So, when you are checking in, tell them that you want as high up as possible. If your hotel has 18 stories, you want to be close to the top. While this might not guarantee that you have a view of the ocean or the skyline, you can almost be guaranteed to at least not look directly into the dumpsters.

You should also tell the clerk that you need to be close to the elevator, if possible. If you make your desires known, you won’t usually have as much trouble getting what you want. If you stay quiet, however, then you will almost never get what you want.

Make sure that your bed situation is what you need, too. Look at your reservation. It might state that your room has only 1 king sized bed. If you need 2 doubles, however, then ask. Priceline will often go by a default and for the most part, the hotel staff doesn’t mind giving you what you need, as long as they have it available.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to complain. It is not written in stone that you have to have a particular room-that’s just the way they do things. If you get to your room, though, and you are not satisfied, then complain and asked to be moved.
