It is possible to get great flight deals when you use the popular travel booking site, Priceline. Knowing how to make an informed bid, however, can go a long way in helping you get the flight that you want for a low price. Here are some tips that you should follow in order to not only get your low-priced bid accepted, but to end up on the best flight possible.
1. Changing your departure or arrival date, or your airport of choice, will allow you to place another bid right away if yours is rejected. However, if you must have the exact dates and airports that you listed, then you will have to wait 24 hours before you can bid again.
2. Travel on days that are off-peak. You typically pay more for flights if you are flying on either Friday or Sunday. It is usually cheaper to fly on Wednesdays, Tuesdays, and even Saturdays.
3. For some destinations, you might get a cheaper airfare and better flight deal if you include a Saturday night stay in your trip.
4. Have alternate dates available just in case you need to rebid.
5. Research rates on other websites so that you will be able to bid less for your flights on Priceline. Do this right before you bid because waiting even a couple of hours can mean a change in price.
6. When placing your bid, bid about 20% less than the fare that you have found on other travel websites, as long as the fare was less than $400. If the fare that you found was more than $400, however, then bid 30% less than that price.
7. Check Hotwire’s airfare, too. Compare the Hotwire airfare with other websites’ airfare and then bid 15% less than the airfare that you find on Hotwire. Their fare should be cheaper than what you find on Expedia and Travelocity.
8. If you are biding several weeks in advance of your trip, then start out bidding low and every day, rebid and slightly increase your price.
9. Don’t pay attention to the fact that Priceline will probably tell you that your bid is likely to fail. Try it anyway because sometimes it does go through. Priceline tends to be conservative.
10. Don’t include the alternatie airports in your first bid. Instead, wait until your bid has been rejected and then include an alternate airport, as this will allow you to make an instant re-bid. When you do re-bid, Priceline includes your first choice and your new choice in your new bid, so your first choice will still be considered.
If your bid is accepted, then don’t forget to print out your confirmation receipt. Although there are rarely any problems with Priceline tickets, it helps to have something in hard copy form when you go to check in at the airport.
Don’t despair if your first bid is not accepted. With a little practice and a little research, you can find great flight deals on Priceline. You might not ever have to pay full price for your tickets again!
