Cruise deals abound on the internet. In fact, during some points of the year, it is possible to take a 5 night cruise through the Caribbean for less than $300, as long as you aren’t too picky about your room. The all inclusive rates are also appealing for those travelers that think that they can save more money by not purchasing things a la carte.

However, all inclusive rates on cruise deals don’t always mean what they used to. Even though some things are still covered by your basic price quote, there are still expenses that can be incurred on even the best cruise line.

It used to be that when you got one of the great cruise deals your meals, beverages, taxes, fees, and entertainment expenses were all covered for you. Although a lot of things are still included in the price, the old ways of having everything included are gone.

If you stick to the included restaurant, which is typically buffet style on most ships, and don’t order any alcoholic or caffeinated beverages with your meal, then you could get away with saying that all of your meals are included.

If, on the other hand, you decide that you want to eat pizza one night from one of the small cafes on the ship, then you are on your own. Same goes if you want to order a Coke from the bar, or even get a scoop of ice cream.

Likewise, although some shows are free and are included, others are not. If you’re looking at a scheduled show that is open to everyone on board, then you’re not going to have to pay for it. Anything special, though, and you’ll have to fork over more money.

A recent search of a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Caribbean showed that the quoted price included accommodations, nightly entertainment, use of the swimming pools, and meals either in the buffet or dining room. It did not include any beverages other than water, spa services, alcohol, tips, any other dining options, shore excursions, or ice cream.

Don’t forget that those other expenses can really add up-especially the shore excursions. Expect to budget anywhere from $50 to $200 per excursion if you take one that the cruise offers. If you have 5 different port calls, then that money can really add up.

If you want to eat someplace other than the restaurants that are included in the price of the cruise, then you should also expect to budget an extra $25 per day per person, too. Budget even more if you plan on drinking alcohol or even a coke now and then.

Still, when you can find a great price, cruises can offer very inexpensive vacations to top destinations. Just don’t expect that everything in the price will be included in your trip. By knowing what is included, and what isn’t included, you can budget accordingly and know how much money your vacation is really going to cost you.
