Would you like to go somewhere, but are afraid that you just don’t have the money to do it? Never fear! There are still destinations that are inexpensive and easy to get to and you won’t have to scrimp and cut too many corners to enjoy them. Here are 10 trips that can easily cost less than $1,000 which prove that cheap travel doesn’t have to be a staycation.
1. Las Vegas- No matter where you live, if you book airfare and hotel together as a package deal on Expedia, you can almost be assured to find a great deal for less than $1,000. You don’t even have to stay off the strip, either! Vegas is a great destination when it comes to cheap travel. Although it has gotten pricier over the years, good deals on meals can still be found in some of the smaller hotels, as well as downtown. Plus, if you’re gambling in the casinos, or at least look like you are gambling, then the drinks are on the house.
2. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina- If you live within driving distance of Myrtle Beach, then it can be a fun place to visit. Take a group of friends along and split the cost of one of the great hotels right on the beach. With 2 or 3 other people, you can easily get by on less than $1,000 and have plenty of money to spare when it comes to the variety of restaurants and entertainment that the destination provides.
3. Nashville, Tennessee- You don’t have to be a fan of country music to enjoy Nashville. Use Hotwire or Priceline to book one of the fabulous 4 star hotels downtown for around $100 per night or less. Take in some shows (jazz, blues, rock, or country) in one of the bars within walking distance of your hotel. Enjoy southern hospitality when it comes to their fabulous dining options, a great shopping experience at Opry Mills, and a cruise down the river on the General Jackson. Country fans will enjoy the Grand Ol Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
4. New Orleans- During the summer when it’s really hot, or in the winter before Mardi Gras, there are some fantastic deals to be found in New Orleans. Stay at one of the inexpensive hotels in the French Quarter, or in one of the charming bed and breakfasts in the Garden District. You don’t need a lot of money to wander around and marvel at the beautiful architecture, to ride the streetcars, or to enjoy some of the live music at night in one of the hundreds of bars and clubs.
5. National Parks & forests- Visiting one of the National Parks or National Forests can be fun and inexpensive. Instead of staying at one of the expensive lodges around the Grand Canyon, for instance, stay in nearby Williams, Arizona, where the rates are lower and the park only a short drive away. Some of the National Forests even rent out old cabins and even fire towers for less than $30 per night. They might be basic, but how else can you stay within miles of Glacier Park for only $25 per night in a watchtower?
6. Gatlinburg, Tennessee- The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited park in the United States-and for a good reason. Not only are the mountains beautiful, but there is a ton of stuff to do here, too. There are hundreds of hotels, inns, and cabins available. The off season, during the winter, can give travelers amazing cheap travel deals-sometimes for as little as $19 per night in no-frills hotels. Visit Dollywood theme park, play mini golf, ride go-carts, go to Ripley’s Aquarium, or hike one of the hundreds of trails through the mountains.
With just a little bit of time and effort put into your research, you will be sure to find a great destination that is not only inexpensive to visit, but a fun and exciting experience as well. Just remember that cheap travel means finding great deals-not sacrificing quality for expense.
