Cheap Air Flights to Hawaii

There is nothing quite like visiting Hawaii. At nearly any time of the year, Hawaii offers a tropical paradise that is nearly enough to make you forget all of the problems that you face back in the “real world.” Unfortunately, getting to Hawaii can be terribly expensive. Cheap air flights to Hawaii might not be plentiful, but they do exist, however.

Your flight to Hawaii will more than likely be the most expensive part of your trip. Once you get there, there are budget accommodations to be found, but the flight itself can be anywhere from $300 to $1,000, depending on where you live and what time of the year you go.

One of the cheapest ways of getting to Hawaii is by cashing in frequent flier miles. If you plan your trip far enough in advance, you shouldn’t have any trouble using them for your Hawaii flight. It only takes about 35,000 miles for a flight to Hawaii, and depending on how often you fly, it might not take you that long to accumulate that many miles. Just one flight to Europe will usually garner 5,000 miles, and that’s one way.

The cheapest airport to fly into is the Honolulu International Airport. If you plan on visiting Maui, however, then it’s usually cheaper to book the flight into Maui and not plan on getting a cheap flight from Honolulu. Why? Because inter-island flying is actually pretty expensive. It can sometimes cost as much as $200 roundtrip to fly between Oahu and the Big Island, for instance.

When planning your trip, try searching other departure airports. If you always fly out of Boston, for instance, then try looking at Providence, Manchester, or even Hartford. Sometimes, for some crazy reason, you can find a good deal out of a smaller airport. On the other hand, if you live in Providence, then it might be cheaper to get up to Boston and to fly out of there. Check all of your options.

Changing your dates can also make a difference. There might be a $100 difference in flying out on a Saturday instead of a Sunday, for instance.

Some airlines offer cheap air flights to Hawaii in the in the winter months. You can often find good deals around January and February when tropical destinations are on sale in order to help lure people from colder places into visiting warmer climates. You are going to find the most expensive flights during springtime and summertime when more people have summer vacations and are traveling for spring break.

Although it is considered hurricane season, you might be able to find good airfares to Hawaii in November, too. By mid November, the risk of hurricanes has usually subsided and the weather in Hawaii is still good, averaging around 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day.

It is possible to find cheap air flights to Hawaii, but it takes a bit of research. Don’t be afraid to play around with your departure dates, departure airports, and the time of year that you visit.
