Air Flights – Saving Money the Easy Way

Everyone wants to save money on air flights. Most of the time, this is actually pretty easy to do. If people had to pay the full published fare every time, then few people would actually be able to afford to fly. Airlines are constantly running promotions, specials, and having other discounts that can bring the price of a flight down to a reasonable rate.

So how you can save money on air flights to your next destination?

To start with, consider your destination and what the peak season and off season is for it. There are certain times of the year in Las Vegas, for instance, when tickets are just going to be cheaper. Flying late in the summer, when the temperature is very hot there, provides substantial discounts. Likewise, after Thanksgiving and before Christmas also shows considerable discounts. On the other hand, spring is very busy for Vegas and one of their peak seasons. You will probably find flights more expensive during this time.

There are also peak times of the day to travel, too. Catching a red-eye flight, which flies over night, is usually cheaper than catching a flight early in the afternoon. Likewise, flying on a Sunday is almost always more expensive than flying on a Saturday or even on a Friday.

Staying away from some of the bigger airlines can also save you money. Smaller airlines might offer fewer amenities, but because of this they are able to charge less for their fares. Flying such airlines as Southwest, AirTran, and American West can often prove to be cheaper than flying the larger airlines such as Delta.

During some parts of the year, airlines have what is referred to as “air wars” when they compete with one another for the lowest price. In the wintertime, for instance, you might notice that several airlines are offering discount tickets to tropical destinations such as the Bahamas and Hawaii. These are excellent times to travel because you will have several different flights to choose from. Hotels usually get in on the act, too, and offer low rates to go along with the low fares.

Sometimes, purchasing your flight and hotel together as a package can show you considerable savings. Popular travel booking websites, like Travelocity, will sometimes offer hundreds of dollars in discounts when you book your flight and hotel at the same time.

Travelocity also offers a function that will allow you to search for flights if you have flexible dates, as well as flexible airports, too. There could be a huge difference in the cost of your flight, just by flying out a day earlier or returning a day later.

Lastly, although you can use some of the popular booking engines to compare flights on different airlines, there are also some new sites, such as Kayak.com, that will let you check several booking engines at once, too. This way, you can be assured that no matter what you are getting the best flight for your trip.
