It’s great to know that we can decide to go away, take a break, almost instantly nowadays with so many cheap flights available online. You can get some great deals if you search for travel discounts online, especially with the great travel sites that are available. We can book and pay instantly and then just pack a bag and go. But what has prompted this desire to escape?

It may be from stress at work or just a feeling that you want a change of scene or of pace. Perhaps you’d like to see something new, a new country, local art or you just want to sit and relax away from your day to day life.

When you decide to go to England, there is so much to do. Start planning your discounted vacation by thinking about the type of vacation that you are looking for. Are you looking for adventure, to see local culture or to relax?

Taking a car tour round the country can be stressful with all the traffic on the motorways along with having to arrange accommodation wherever you stop for the night. So, what about considering a narrowboat cruise?

Discover the real England away from the crowds of tourists in London and take a boat trip along the Thames. You can get some great deals on flights to the UK from almost anywhere. You can hire an authentic English narrowboat or a luxury cruiser from several places along the Thames. Just decide first which part of the Thames you want to explore and you will easily find, with the help of the Internet, somewhere close to hire your boat and some great discounts. They come in all shapes and sizes and are well equipped and comfortable. Ask for some bikes as well, they can be stowed on top without interfering with your sunbathing or your view.

This summer is a great time of year on the Thames. The busy tourist season is not yet underway and the river looks beautiful. Along the River Thames you will find all sorts of spring flowers and trees, the daffodils are resplendent. The river is full of bird life with ducks pairing up for nest building and the swans elegant with their wide wing span, sweep down the river in pairs just feet above you. You will see herons and kingfishers and far up in the sky you will see kites soaring in the thermals

Taking a boat up the Thames is also a social affair. At every lock you will be greeted by the lockkeeper, often quite a character so you’ll have lots of stories to tell when you go home. He will help you through the lock and while you are holding your boat you will find everyone wants to talk to you. Here you will meet the real English not the English tourists of London come in for the day to ‘do’ a museum or ‘ do the shops’. These English have more colour, more depth and you may meet up with someone you decide to eat with at one of the lovely pubs along the river.

You can moor up wherever you like, in some places you will need to pay a small mooring fee. You could visit a local village by bike, just take your bikes off the boat and armed with an Ordinance Survey map showing the many cycle routes, you can head off to explore some of the little villages and buy some local produce to cook later in your boat. Maybe you would like to fish and catch your own supper. If so, buy a fishing license when you hire your boat.
Lots of people enjoy the slow pace of life, the gentle lapping of the river against the side of the boat and the glance into the true English way of life. You will meet dog walkers, fishermen and families out walking. You will be able to look into people’s back gardens along the river and see how ‘the other half ‘ live as these are very grand houses. It is so quiet with just the sounds of ducks quacking, you won’t hear a road at all. You could take some books to read, maybe take a sketchpad and record some of the lovely views to take home for a totally unique souvenir.

If you are looking for beauty, adventure and culture on a discount, be sure to search for discounted travel to ride down the river Thames.
