Educational Holidays on a Discount

Have you ever wanted to learn a foreign language, learn how to cook Mexican Food or learn to sketch? These are just some of the many courses on offer all over Europe which enable you to give your brain a bit of a workout while you relax. What is even better is that you can arrange the airfare at a discount, creating a great travel learning opportunity for you to take advantage of.

At retirement age, we tend to be caught up in our career and families and it’s often a long time since we last learnt anything new just for ourselves. Companies will send us on courses that benefit them essentially but what about if you want to learn something unrelated to your work? There are evening classes and courses we could go on locally but how much better to go away somewhere different and learn there with others doing the same? There is so much fun to be had learning together and helping eachother achieve prowess at something. People often stay in touch afterwards and stay in touch because the shared learning experience can be so enjoyable and life enhancing.

If we start with some of the creative skills, which appeal to many office based workers, we can soon see how such skills will enrich our lives afterwards. Take painting, for example. If you take a painting or sketching holiday in somewhere beautiful like Italy, Spain or France, you will be surrounded with fantastic countryside and a peaceful environment where you can completely relax and be in the right frame of mind to paint. On your return you can practise your new found skills locally or use them when you travel closer to home. You may even find you’ve ‘caught the bug’ and want to do another related course such as oil painting or watercolours to try different media. Imagine learning all of these skills on a fantastic discounted holiday!

Some crafts can be messy and time consuming such as pottery which needs time for the clay to dry, time to kiln fire it and specialised equipment and materials. If you take a pottery course or other similar craft course you will learn more in the week than at a weekly course run locally and meet with like-minded folk who will inspire you and encourage you to great works!

Cooking courses are very popular, even with men! If you’ve never cooked before and don’t want to be wedded to a basic cook book, take a French or Italian cooking course in the country itself and be inspired by the local produce and restaurants as you learn how to cook the local dishes. Even experienced cooks may feel they would like to learn more specialist skills such as patisserie or bread baking. Yes, you can cook in these amazing locations on a budget!

For those of us who are not so creative but want to learn a new skill there are language courses you can do in the country. These will enable you to achieve a greater level of fluency through daily exercises and practise than learning once a week at a local college or school.

In retirement, we might be interested in courses in counselling or self-improvement especially if we have been facing a lot of stress in our life. These courses can enable us to return home with new ways of coping with life’s problems.

Whatever course you may choose will mean you need to checkout discount flights and plan in advance as these courses tend to be very popular nowadays as people move away from package holidays and city breaks to look for an altogether more life enriching experience.
