Traveling with children

Traveling with childrenSometimes it’s hard traveling with young kids –especially on an airplane!  Being in an airplane is much different than traveling by car or train.  For example, when you’re in a car you can know you can stop and stretch your legs or let your little one release some energy at any time.  However, when you’re in an airplane you’re in this confined tube for the entire trip –which can make even the most patient person cranky let alone a small child.  Here are a few tips to help you out (and the others around you) when traveling by plane.

Bring along toys to keep your child’s amused during your flight.  You can also consider bring along a DVD player so your little one can watch movies while on the plane.

Bring along plenty of snacks and food.  Make sure these are healthy snacks and not just sugar-ridden carbohydrates.  Usually on planes, you’re stuck with one type of snack or meal and Murphy’s Law says that your child will most likely not like any of it, so bring along something that you know your child will like.

This may seem obvious, but make sure you bring along extra diapers.  And also bring some sort of container or bag to seal up dirty diapers so that the smell doesn’t permiate the plane, annoying the passengers around you.

traveling with kidsEven if you take all precautionary measures your child might start to yell and scream and really started annoying your neighboring passengers.  Whatever you do, do not just let your child run rampant on the airplane, running up and down the aisles,  to exhaust energy. It’s very annoying to the other passengers.  Be stern, but kind to your child.  Try entertaining them with their favorite toy or movie so they stay still is much as possible.

Flying with your child can be a real challenge sometimes tried if you prepare ahead of time.  If you bring along the above items and non-sugary snacks to help mellow out your child, you can make your trip less stressful for you and your neighbors on the plane.
